First day of school introduction to Garthmyl Hall…
Hi I’m Julia! I am a 30 year old girl boss who is very lucky to be living and working in my dream job here at Garthmyl Hall. We bought the hall 2 years ago when it was in a really, really bad way, it needed loads of work doing, we had to renovate the inside and the grounds. I was responsible for designing the interior of the hall and I loved doing it, I’ve not done anything like that before and it was a massive challenge as I had 4 months to get the bulk of the inside done, we had an epic team behind us though and they all worked so hard to get it done!
Before taking on this project I worked at another wedding venue where I helped with the weddings and events so its not a new industry for me. I used to work in Debenhams and hated the corporate red tape lifestyle so cut ties and came back to sunny wales! My parents own a successful tractor business and love a challenge so together we bought the hall. I live on site with my lovely daughter Poppy who is 4, she is a great fan of the hall as there are so many hiding places for her!

What are a few of your favourite things?
I love, love, love fashion and anything interior! I also love any form of alcohol! I have a cat called Tom who is our mascot!
Tell us about where the magic happens – where’s your HQ?
HQ is my kitchen table at the moment! I sacrificed my office to become the store room!
How and why did you start up your business?
Weddings are my absolute passion, I love getting to know my couples and helping them with their big day. I couldn’t do anything else!

What do you love most about your job?
Getting to know my couples and staying in touch after, knowing that you have made an impact on people is so important to me.
What makes your work unique?
What we offer is so flexible and relaxed, we want couples to have the day THEY want not what I dictate, if I can make something happen it will happen. Not one wedding is like the next. When you are here we will make you feel like it is your home and no one else has been married here before you!
What kind of couples are ‘your couples’?
We get a real mix, but creative and fun ones for sure.

What would be your advice for couples looking to plan a wedding totally unique to them?
Do what you both want, try not to listen to others’ opinions as its about you two. There is so much scope here to plan something totally different.
What inspires you?
My mum and dad inspire me, they are so hard working and that has rubbed off on me.
What’s been your proudest moment so far?
I would say that when the registrar didn’t turn up for a wedding and I stepped in to do the service! It was really nerve wracking but it was amazing and actually so much more personal as I know the couple really well now and are friends. It was lovely seeing the groom’s face as she walked down the aisle.

What’s the most important lesson you’ve learnt?
Oh good one. Hmmm I would say that working with family can be really hard but you know when things are hard they are there to help you no matter what.
In your opinion, what makes a great wedding?
Your guests! It is all about your friends and family. They are the ones that set the atmosphere.
What exciting bits are in the pipeline?
We are extending our onsite accommodation. Converting the stables into cottages. Building a Boat House on our mini lake and also converting our massive Victorian kennels into luxury one bedroom en-suite rooms. We are also looking into having an outside bar.
