Gorgeous, fun filled, city wedding…
Afternoon!
Today we have this gorgeous wedding to share with you; the quirky wedding of Holly and Louise which took place at The Hide in Sheffield.
This super fun city wedding was a real family affair and was filled with laughter, street food, doughnuts and dancing…
Holly & Louise…
Tell us how you met and got engaged…
We met at school when we were 11! After school we lost touch and reconnected a few years ago via facebook after discovering we had both developed a love of snowboarding. We went out a few times as friends then one night, we went out and something just felt different. I don’t know what was in the drinks but we both say it was as if someone had just flicked a switch! Within weeks Louise was spending all her time with me and the kids and moved in ‘officially’ a year later.
What were your main hopes for the day…
The weather was a huge bonus! Getting married between Christmas and New Year we expected rain… or snow but we had one of those beautiful sunny winter’s days. It was absolutely freezing though but we got some fantastic pictures!!
Was your favourite part of the day…
Everything! We loved having our couples shots before the ceremony so we could spend all our time afterwards with our guests… and sneak in a quick trip to the pub! Going on the carousel with the kids for some pictures was loads of fun.
At the very end of the day after all the guests had gone home and we’d checked into our beautiful hotel we sat together and opened all our cards. Reading all the messages from our loved ones was the perfect end to our perfect day.
How was your day unique…
We wanted the kids to have a big part in the day… to us getting married was as much about creating a family as it was about being together as a couple. Our boys gave us away and the girls were bridesmaids. We all walked down the aisle together. The girls decided they wanted to wear suits to match the boys… we were definitely upstaged by our gorgeous children on the day!
Keeping with the family friendly theme we ended up with 25 children with us for the day. One of the best decisions we made was to have a children’s party entertainer for the reception – happy kids = happy parents and everyone had a great night.
What was your budget…
£10,000
What was your biggest expense…
Two brides means two lots of everything… dresses, engagement rings, shoes, hair, makeup etc, etc!
We chose to invest money on the things that would last beyond the day… a fantastic photographer and beautiful rings made for us by a local independent jeweler who were so lovely and even gave us a card and a bottle of champagne when we collected them the week before the wedding.
How did you save money…
On pretty much everything else! We opted for fantastic street food rather than a sit down meal which really helped on the budget but also captured the low-key chilled out vibe we were looking for and all our guests loved it. Our incredible friend Katy not only made us a wedding cake but also sang at the reception.
We hired a Jukebox rather than having a DJ. This worked so well, people were queuing up to put on their favorites and the dance floor was packed all night.
What was it like working with your photographer…
Sassy was just fantastic… she actually made us look cool! She captured the day absolutely perfectly and got the balance of going with the flow and taking charge spot on. Helping us and the kids to feel relaxed in front of the camera and generally being a full on bad-ass!
Advice to any couples about to get married…
It’s the little details that you’ll remember and which will make the day yours. If you want doughnuts for desert… have doughnuts for desert! Always been a fan of star wars, stick Darth Vader on the top of your cake! It’s the perfect chance to indulge what you love and create your perfect day. Go for it!
Huge congratulations! What a wonderful day and thank you for sharing with us!
