Lizzie from Wedding Yurts…
There’s so much beauty all around us during Spring and Summer, that it’s no surprise that so many couples take inspiration from the natural world at this time of year. Here are just a few of my styling ideas that are perfect for spring and summer, plus a recipe for a rather fabulous cocktail that your guests will love, whenever you serve it.
Firstly, let’s talk styling. When I’m on the road with Wedding Yurts, my travelling wedding venue, I love to use seasonal and local delights to decorate our handcrafted yurts. During spring and summer, the choice is literally endless but here are some of my favourite ideas:
Of course you have to include masses of seasonal flowers and there are plenty of homegrown varieties around in spring and summer. Your florist or stylist will be able to advise you, so choose what’s naturally perfect rather than using blooms that have been forced or imported. Nothing beats British peonies, ranunculus, scented stocks and narcissi! Don’t forget to consider using spring blossom or foliage and both are great options if you’re on a budget.
Seasonal menus are another must-have, so talk to your caterers to make the most of the best fresh produce. Baby vegetables and early salads are great when the weather gets warmer; but for early spring hearty feasts with sharing platters of local cheeses, cured meats, artisan breads and homemade pickles are always popular. Similarly, fruity cocktails and cordials are a seasonal must and the first of the latest batch of English wines are now also available. Cheers!
When spring rolls around after a long and dark winter, everyone wants to get outside. How about creating a luxurious outdoor seating area so that your guests can enjoy the fresh air? A stylist like myself or furniture hire company can bring in some fabulous chairs and sofas, or straw bales covered with throws and rugs are an easy DIY.
Speaking of being outside, we all know that the weather can be a fickle friend so why not provide rugs and wraps for guests? These are great if you’re planning an outdoor element to your party and they’re also really handy if the weather is colder than you anticipated. Another great way to keep everyone toasty is with a roaring fire. At Wedding Yurts, we’re well known for our well-stoked fire pits and I love seeing guests still sat around them in the early hours. If you want your party to last, a fire will always encourage people to linger.
Lastly, don’t forget the lighting. Candles and fairy lights are wonderfully atmospheric all year round and in spring, when the evenings are still quite dark, they’re very special indeed. Candles in summer also add a really soft glow to your wedding and look incredibly effective in those gorgeous long, dusky hours.
Wedding Yurts Espresso Martini Recipe…
Now, let’s move onto the cocktail and I promised you, it’s a good one. Espresso Martinis are pretty much our favourite cocktail and they’re very popular in our Yurt Bar all year round. You’ll also be pleased to hear that they’re really very simple to make so here’s our recipe:
- Brew some coffee – I use organic espresso from Extract Coffee in Bristol. Their beans are always freshly roasted, so they smell and taste amazing!
- Wait for coffee to cool.
- Chill your Martini glass with ice.
- Add ice to your cocktail shaker.
- Add 1 shot of coffee, 1 shot of coffee liqueur, we use patron and 1 shot of vodka, we used Black Cow, the vodka is made from milk!
- Shake up and poor into your chilled glass.
- Decorate with a few whole coffee beans and enjoy with friends snuggled around outdoor fire.
