‘Concrete Jungle’ styling inspiration…
Today’s shoot perfectly encompasses some of the wedding industries current trends – with unique, colourful and fun styling.
Katie from Malarkey Cakes was the brains behind the shoot, and created a bunch of truly awesome and original cakes. Over to her to tell us more…

Inspiration…
I went to The Princess of Wales conservatory at Kew Gardens back in the summer in search of inspiration for new cake designs. I also have a love of architecture and love the trend for concrete cakes coming over from Australia at the moment. I knew I wanted to bring it all together in a shoot.
My Sister, Sophie (Sophie Lake Photography) suggested a wedding reception shoot with a cake table as a main feature, but to also focus on other key aspects of styling. We wanted to marry together big green leaves, concrete urban style, fun pink and copper, so the concrete jungle theme was born!
The main reason for choosing B Loved Hive as our venue was the amount of natural light. As a warehouse unit offered a perfect urban space for our jungle.
What details do you love the most & why?
I love how all the details of the shoot fit together so well. I was completely in awe of the flowers and tropical leaves from Herbert and Isles. The stationery by Paper Grace perfectly fitted with the other details on the table arrangement. The gorgeous balloons by ooh balloons brought some fun to the table arrangement with their mini tropical leaf details. To add a little rustic charm to the shoot we chose trestle tables and chairs and the ‘cake bar’ from Anthology Vintage Hire
The collection of cakes I made (Malarkey cakes) also brought elements of the whole shoot together. The flowers were perfectly arranged on the cakes and the concrete cake with the pink anthurium really carries off the urban/ tropical theme we were going for. I also try to use found objects or alternatives to usual cake stands.
For our model, we wanted someone who could effortlessly carry off the simple yet stunning silk separates provided by Halo and Wren so Danielle was an obvious choice.
Styling tips…
I think the shoot and styling will really appeal to couples looking for modern and fun wedding inspiration as well as a certain rustic charm in an urban setting. I’d say choosing a venue that’s like a blank canvas and adding elements of your own really allows you to put your own unique stamp on the day.
LOVE! Thanks to Katie and all the team for sharing x
