Nicole from Abstract Events…

What was the idea behind the shoot?
My idea behind the shoot was to show how you can modernise a wedding and make it different by using an unexpected colour palette, mixture of textures and small details such as coloured accessories. I wanted to create a romantic, industrial and contemporary mood.
I love city weddings so Sunset Studio was perfect for the vision, it has large black framed windows and rough plastered peachy walls. Plus, its always fun to play with blank canvas that you can make your own. I also wanted to highlight that a couples personality should shine through on their day and the models did a great job of showing this.
Where did you get your inspiration from?
The inspiration for the shoot actually started with a wall sculpture I came across by artist Tilde Grynnerup, it had the most gorgeous colour palette and defined shapes. I’m not instantly drawn to lilac but when I saw it combined with the other colours I was sold, I wanted the colours to come to life!
How did you find the suppliers who made this concept come to life?
The team were all great to work with and all passionate which helped bring the concept to life! I found the majority of them through networking on Instagram.
I had seen Osman’s work a few months ago and knew he would suit the vibe of the shoot. I wanted a photographer who could tell a story, capture intimate moments and the playfulness between the models, which is exactly what he did.
I saw Jade from @wildflowerandfox florals and loved her style, it has a modern and an untamed feel which is exactly what I wanted for the flowers. She smashed the brief and got every detail down!
Cheryl from @velvet_hearts designs are stunning and I knew from the offset her bridalwear would be perfect as I didn’t want to use a traditional wedding dress. FAITH, the lace and pearl two piece is out of this world!
I reached out to @dreimelo_handmade after buying earrings from her for myself and knew she loved playing with colour as much as I did so it was a great match.
Emily from @written_byemily got the brief instantly and put the prettiest stationery together for the shoot.
The ruffle veil created so much impact! Lauren from @laurenmizon.bespokeveils has the coolest veils and was so helpful when I reached out.
I had spoken to Melissa from @crazyinlovebridal on Instagram for a few months and she actually saved me the day before when I received the wrong outfit for the shoot and found the perfect outfit. What a legend!
The cake was made by Emma from @petalnpastries who is a family friend, she was as excited as I was about the shoot. The cake she made had a modern, urban and fresh feel.
My friend Liana @liana14x assisted us on the day and was superwoman!
Melinda from @mels_brides and Becci from @beccibrushes smashed the hair and makeup and made it feel really modern.
Nicole from @terrazzotribe and Kate from @concretefriendsclub came through with the finishing touches and made the coolest peach candleholders for the tablescape and install.
What details/look are your favourite, and why?
The bride outfits were amazing. We had two main looks that were very different to each other. The bride went from sassy and cool with the funkiest sunglasses to elegant and modern. FAITH by @velvet_hearts is perfection.
I love how the install with the metal stands, untamed flowers and hanging fabrics came together. Its a simple idea but created impact and a great focus point for photographs. I think it shows that you don’t have to have a huge budget to create those magical moments.
The models chemistry on camera made it feel really romantic and I absolutely love how Osman @wolfshootsweddings captured the day.
Do you have any styling tips for readers looking to emulate this shoot?
I think its important to find suppliers that really understand your vision and love it as much as you do. Also, finding a venue that compliments the look you are trying to create and that doesn’t work against it makes life easier. When you are clear and stick with a colour palette and certain materials/textures, everything flows better and just have fun with it!
What is it that makes your shoot unique?
Colours that you don’t see everyday and the little details such as popping accessories and cool modern bridalwear. I also think the contrast that has been created, romantic vs industrial. Using metal stands, a studio with raw textures and black chairs and combining it with soft colours, flowing fabrics and contemporary flowers.
What’s the most important tip you have for couples planning their wedding?
I would recommend using suppliers that fit your style and understand your vision from the start. Don’t be afraid to inject your personality into your day. You shouldn’t comprise on what matters to you most as a couple so prioritise what is most important to you and let the rest follow.
