The Wonderous Wedding Fair Returns This Weekend…
This weekend The Wonderous Wedding Fair returns for their Autumn/ Winter show at The Pyramids Centre in Portsmouth.
The fair showcases stylish, fun and interactive exhibitors showcasing what’s hot in the wedding industry right now. So whether your styling your wedding around vintage, festival, alternative or quirky details there will be over 40 suppliers there to explore.
Over to Alex who curates the show to tell us more…
The Wonderous Wedding Fair created a collaborative styled shoot with of some of the South’s best wedding suppliers. Captured by Wayne Kahn in the city of Southsea, this shoot was very much a fusion of different wedding styles and themes. We have contemporary feminine dresses coupled with historical architecture. Dark bohemian decor mixed with soft pinks colours. It is a brilliant example of how you don’t have to limit yourself to one theme on your wedding day. As this shoot illustrates, contrasting themes can work really really well together and create much more of an overall impact.
We wanted to inspire bridal styling outside of tradition and show our customers that they don’t have to follow convention to rock a wedding. As you can see the models were out and about at a variety of locations in the city, who would know this was shot in one city.
The images from the shoot tell a full story of a wedding day through from a ceremony set up under a wooden crafted arch bedecked with foliage and fabric through to the candle lit venue.
Where did you get your inspiration from?
The initial starting point was the location. The shoot always has to be set in Southsea, the home of The Wonderous Wedding Fair. With the sea being thes` heart of the city I wanted the model into the water, creating an ethereal romantic look. I was obsessed with incorporating a Fedora as I had seen some stunning photography from America with models in the dessert.
With the city being Naval, tattoos were popular traditions among mariners. I had to choose the right models, as this is everything to portraying a relatable the story. Our models Ashley and Alice, a real couple combined all of those elements.
Once the suppliers starting to book it it started to take a natural shape as I wanted to ensure that they provided work that represented them.
How did you find the suppliers who made this concept come to life?
The suppliers are all exhibiting at The Wonderous Wedding Fair on Sunday 28th October in Southsea, Hampshire. We provide an optional extra where suppliers can to select to be involved in this dynamic styled shoot. It is a perfect way for creative to achieve new images for their portfolio and to work alongside others in the industry.

What details are your favourite, and why?
That is hard to choose; love the details in the table-scaping, miniature adorned cakes, Till Death embroidery on the veil.
But, I would choose the hair and make-up. For some reason I love glitter on brides, you don’t see enough of it. A flash of turquoise under Alice’s eyes completely change the look of her very feminine wedding styling. It’s rocked it up!
Do you have any styling tips for readers looking to emulate this shoot?
Just follow your personality. Go and be inspired by what you see and read, though remember create a look that defines you.
What do you think the key words for your shoot’s style are?
Contemporary, stylish, rocking.
What is it that makes your shoot unique?
We created 4 very unique looks, though different they are coherent. The models are keys to making your styled shoots looking relatable to couples.
What’s the most important tip you have for couples planning their wedding?
There are no limits, do not follow the rules and be conventional. You are only going to do this once, make it memorable. PS have fun, don’t loose sight that you are getting married to the one you love.
