Magda…
I love the concept of forbidden, crazy love and finding your soulmate. It’s that connection that is so magical and very special that is so exciting! I wanted to show the story of two traveller girls who are living alternative life who decide one day to elope and to declare their love to each other on a top of a hill, running away from pressures that comes with living in big cities and organising a wedding.
Inspiration for this shoot started with Esther from Frock Shop – dress designer and maker – who showed me this beautiful tartan fabric that inspired her to design a dress. Esther asked me if I would be interested in photographing the dress but the moment I saw the fabric I knew I wanted to make the fabric the star- it was so gorgeous! We both wanted to do something different and this tartan fabric was what we both needed to start us thinking! It was an interesting process to start my inspiration in fashion and start building out the plan for the shoot. We brainstormed for ideas and came up with a very similar vision – messy hair, boots, wooly socks, flowers that look like they’ve been picked from the surrounding hills, beautiful outdoor location – it was ticking all of the boxes for me so I started planning!
We knew the shoot would take place in autumn so we wanted to keep the colours in line with the season. Esther made 2 dresses for the shoot, one was silver and one was blue tartan.
Claire from Headcase helped with styling the shoot and she was absolutely fab! Not only did she know lots of suppliers who helped us out with various items of clothing and jewellery, but she also designed a picnic set up and was watching the girls all day to make sure they looked gorgeous in every shot together with the rest of the team.
What details do you love the most and why?
The tartan dress! I had a chance to try it on and it feels so good when you wear something made to measure and with love! As a small business owner myself,I want to support those small businesses around me because they take care and listen to their customers and work hard beyond the trend of mass production.
Claire’s favourite bit was the hair rings and lacy sock as a necktie – so creative and quirky!
