If you are planning a barn wedding and are looking for inspiration that doesn’t fall under the ‘rustic charm’ umbrella, then you will love today’s inspiration.
We are talking about modern bridal styling, blousey Spring blooms, minimal yet stylish tablescapes, and pops of hot pink and orange that sit perfectly alongside pretty pastel tones!
Over to Nicola from Abstract Events to tell us more about the inspiration that was styled at The Barn at Alswick, Buntingford.
Nicola from Abstract Events…
What was the idea behind the shoot?
The idea behind the shoot was to use bright colours like hot pinks and oranges to capture a spring vibe yet keep the wedding style “cool” and “sophisticated”. The tablescape is minimal with fun touches such as lollipop favours and hot pink napkins. I also wanted to show couples that having a barn wedding does not necessarily mean your wedding has to be “rustic”. A barn wedding can still feel very modern but have natural beauty that usually come with barn venues, such as the stunning glamping area that the Barn at Alswick offer their couples!
Where did you get your inspiration from?
Spring was the inspiration for this shoot. I love all that spring has to offer, the flowers that are around such as tulips and all the colours it brings! I think it is such a great time of the year to get hitched. I feel like everything comes to life in spring and I wanted to make sure the shoot represented this.
How did you find the suppliers who made this concept come to life?
I have worked with a lot of the suppliers before and I knew they would be a great match! It is always good to work with suppliers who love the concept you have put together and believe in your vision. I found the other suppliers I have not yet worked with by networking on social media.
Which looks are your favourite, and why?
I chose a bridal suit for the first part of the wedding and the images are so COOL, giving “Elvira Hancock” vibes. I mean anyone that can rock a white suit on their wedding day, definitely should haha! I’ve been wanting to use a bridal suit for such a long time and the photographs Sarah took look like a fashion editorial. Aina used the coolest orange eyeliner for the bride’s eye makeup which I’m obsessed with. The whole look shows how you can combine class and still keep it funky.
We then changed the bride into the most gorgeous tulle skirt designed by Alyce Jane that screams fun party vibes. We wanted to capture the bride having lots of fun with her bride tribe, especially on the dancefloor, because if you aren’t having fun, what is the point!
I love the images of the girls taking photographs of each other and the idea of the guests and the couple using a polaroid camera to create memories of the day. Such a simple yet impactful idea and a nice keepsake for a couple.
I get really excited when other creatives get to work their magic. The cake was one of my favourite parts of the day as it is very abstract and something you do not come across everyday.
Do you have any styling tips for readers looking to emulate this shoot?
The bridesmaids dresses were simple but are fresh, modern and vibrant. They were affordable, which I think is very important for Brides who have a “smaller” budget, the bridesmaid dresses were all under £40, one may have even been £15 from what I remember! You can find ways to save money and still make sure your bride tribe look BEAUTIFUL!
I would stick to three main colours that you love for your tablescape as that way everything ties in and doesn’t feel to fussy, especially if you are after a more minimal look. Remember minimal does not mean BORING! In this case I used hot pink, orange and a pastel pink to create a vibrant spring vibe. I would also suggest to readers to always choose a colour palette they love! Do not be afraid to stand out.
What is it that makes your shoot unique?
I think using such a bright colour palette in such a minimal way makes this shoot unique. It shows you do not have to go over the top to make your day stand out and be vibrant. I also love the colours that has been used in the brides makeup, it is not everyday you see a bride with orange eyeliner or bright pink lip gloss!
What’s the most important tip you have for couples planning their wedding?
HAVE FUN! Do not overthink it, you want your day to feel personal to you as a couple, choose things that you really love and that represent you as a couple. Even if it means putting on an orange pair of wellies!
I good place to start with planning is by writing down what the “three most important things” you want from your day are and stick to those throughout. Whether that is incredible entertainment, a late bar or the aesthetics of the day…
