Small, Local and Personal…

Today’s wedding is simple, intimate but oh so cute!

Kim & Jody were married at the William Morris Gallery in Walthamstow with their closest friends & family, followed by a charming afternoon tea and dinner at a local restaurant – perfect!

Tell us how you met and got engaged…

We met in the glamorous world of Local Authority and were friends (completely innocently) for 4 years. Jody even interviewed me for a job once! Then the stars aligned 3 years ago and we were both single at the same time… the rest is history!

Jody asked me to marry him the day before our 2 year anniversary. It was in our garden and very intimate and personal to us (including the use of the model of a mythical woodland creature that we had seen in a shop in Hackney on one of our many walks on the canal). Jody isn’t very good at being patient so we were only engaged 6 months before the big day.

Was your favourite part of the day?

The ceremony – it meant the world!

How was your day unique?

We wanted a small and intimate wedding with just our families there. It was also very important to us that the wedding was local to us and everything we did was at a meaningful place. Food is very important to us and so a mass catered event was our idea of a nightmare. We loved that we could just have a long, leisurely dinner at a place we have eaten at many times and everyone could eat and drink whatever they want.

Because we didn’t have a reception we wanted to ensure the flowers we had were beautiful. Our florist was AMAZING and created some beautiful, modern, incredibly bright bouquets, button holes and vases.

What made you chose your wedding venue?

We got married at the William Morris Gallery. It is a gorgeous building with a wonderful park at the back – in the middle of very urban Walthamstow. It is also a building we have been to many times so felt special to us. We had two readings – a Bob Marley quote and a (modified) Pam Ayres poem. We then had afternoon tea in the same room – with local beers.

Our families then enjoyed a couple of drinks in The Bell pub whilst Jody and I had our pics taken. Finally we headed into Walthamstow Village for dinner at the excellent Eat17 and gin and tonics at the Queens Head. Basically it was a celebration of the borough we live in and have worked in – it all felt very personal and comfortable.

Tell us about your wedding outfits and why you picked them…

We wanted to look ‘weddingy’ but also to be able to be in our local pub without looking mad! Jody’s suit was super smart from Hugo Boss and shoes from Dune (called Pierre – which is the name of our car). My dress was from a wonderful boutique called indiebrides – the perfect shop for short city/boho dresses. My shoes were also from Dune and were pink velvet.

What was it like working with your photographer?

We chose Miss Gen and loved the fact she was local to us and knew the area well. We loved her intimate style – it matched our ceremony. We love the pics of the ceremony – it felt so overwhelming on the day, that the opportunity to reflect afterwards and to enjoy looking at our loved ones reactions. We also love the fact we had pics outside Waltham Forest Town Hall – we both worked there when we first started dating.
