Cool London Wedding with Pretty Florals + DIY Decor at the Core, Clapton
What’s not to love about todays London wedding!
Kelly & George had a fun filled wedding held at the Core in Clapton. I absolutely ADORE the simple white backdrop alongside the abundance of pretty florals that surrounded their ceremony.
Plus those red embroidered shoes paired with that gorgeous non wedding dress by London designer Renli Su… absolute perfection!!
Over to the couple to tell us more about their day…
George & Kelly…
How did you meet?
At secondary school.
How did you get engaged?
George proposed on a bench looking out to sea outside the Tate St Ives in Cornwall.
Was there an overall theme to your day?
The idea behind our wedding was for guest to feel like they were at a family party with good food, good wine and good music. We wanted the atmosphere to be relaxed and fun.
How would you describe your day?
Our day was about celebrating our relationship with our family and friends. The day was full of laughter, tears of joy and euphoric dancing.
How long were you planning it for, and what was the best bit?
After being together for 13 years, we wanted to get married as soon as possible so we got married a year after getting engaged. We really enjoyed making and collecting decorations for the wedding. George made all the concrete candle holders, we collected all the vases from auctions, charity shops and family shelves. We designed and printed the menus with our favourite poems and dried flowers for confetti.
How was your day unique to you?
Our wedding was a family affair. All the flowers were grown and arranged by George’s father (there were a lot), the flower petal confetti was dried by Kelly’s mum, the desserts were made by both sides of the family including the multi tiered wedding cake made by George’s mum. The arch was constructed by our friend Amelia who was seven months pregnant!?! and the amazing dance playlist was put together by Kelly’s Dad. There were readings by siblings and all night dancing with friends.
What are your favourite details of the day?
The flowers were a big part of our day, they made it feel so special as if the outside was being brought inside. The food cooked by our caterers Sabel was one of the best meals we have ever eaten. One guest said he would ‘never eat lamb again’ as it would never be beaten.
How did you find your suppliers, and why did you decide on them?
We wanted to get married in our local area so we scouted out locations near our flat. We were so lucky to find Core Clapton, we were one of the first couples to book our ceremony there.
We are big foodies so this was an important one, Sabel were using the kitchen at Core so we did a recke at their local pop up where we fell in love with their mediterranean style.
We knew we always wanted a brass band after falling in love with hot 8 brass band so we did a big internet search for the perfect match.
We wanted the venue to feel like a party at our family homes so we hired vintage tables, persian rugs and comfy leather sofas from Anthology vintage hire.
We found Katie, the makeup artist, online. Kelly wanted a natural look for her make up but a playful hairstyle and we looked for a local makeup artist who would be easy to talk to on the morning of the wedding,
Lastly ,we wanted a photographer who would make us and the day look as beautiful as it could be, we were so lucky to find Maja online, she had such a bright and natural style.
Tell us about your wedding outfits, and why you picked them.
Kelly’s dress is from Renli Su, a London designer. She knew she wanted a casual non wedding dress that she could dance in and fell in love as soon as she tried it on. For her shoes she looked to one of her favourite designers Simone Rocha for the amazing embroidered red platforms.
George wanted a suit that didn’t feel like something he would wear to work, something fun and unusual but still classic. He settled on a check suit from the british brand Joseph and Shoes from Barker.
What was your budget?
£20,000.
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding, for either the planning or the lead-up?
Spend your money on the things that matter to you the most.
Plan your time so you don’t get overwhelmed and leave everything to the last minute, luckily we are good planners.
Don’t get trapped by doing things traditionally if you don’t want to, we saw each others outfits before the wedding, we spent the night before together so we didn’t get nervous, we didn’t have a first dance or make a big thing of cutting the cake.
Stick to your guns but be flexible, everyone will have something to say about how, when and where you are getting married and who you invite so pick your battles.
Thank you so much George and Kelly for sharing your incredible day with us :)
