If a pink wedding dress, bright neon florals and an intimate elopement is your thang, then today is your day! Over to Beanie from Beans On Toast for Two to tell us more about this cute intimate elopement set in the heart of York….
What was the idea behind the shoot?
Over lockdown we were just itching to do something creative! I’d seen a lot of trends emerging connected with micro-weddings & elopements, some so unbelievably stylish. I absolutely love York, the city we both grew up in and wanted to shoot a couple walking around the city. I guess I wanted to show you didn’t have to do something big and expensive to have a super stylish, unique wedding that you love. That was when the picnic idea sort of popped into my head, it feel really romantic and private.
Where did you get your inspiration from?
The dress for me was a big source of inspo, I adored @dreamsisterjanes puffy over the top sleeves and bows, it really reminded me of 80’s prom / sweet sixteen vibes. So once I found that gorgeous pink number I knew how I wanted the rest of the shoot to look.
How did you find the suppliers who made this concept come to life?
Ellena from @botanicsflorist is an old friend of mine and I’d wanted to work with her for ages so she was a must! I’d also been following @Noonchi_cake on instagram as I’d never seen anyone making cakes like her before, I was obsessed!
Same for @w_collective and her stunning veils, she made that veil custom for us too! Sonia @sonia.schofield.mua was a last minute addition due to a cancelation and I’m soooo glad she came, she totally got the brief and the eye look she did on our model was just amazing.
And My lovely friend Eleanor (@Kaolin.kiln) made the clay earrings, @bellsspace lent us the lovely pearl necklace. So it was a mix of instagram and friends, it really was a team effort to be honest, everyone was really generous!
What details/look are your favourite, and why?
I loved the cheeky shades we used towards the end, we were shooting in April but it really gave it a summer vibe. I also loved our grooms Denim Jacket & Red docs, really matched them together as a couple.
Do you have any styling tips for readers looking to emulate this shoot?
It’s all about colours for me! Find a really good florist, then build from their ideas and colour pallet. I think florals really make a bridal look, and if you can pick out just a couple of colours to tie everything together you’ll nail it. Also we love a puffy sleeve 🙌🏻
What is it that makes your shoot unique?
I think the fact that we didn’t do a table scape was pretty different, I wanted to do the picnic instead of dress a table because it was all about showing your wedding doesn’t need to be expensive, and venues are one of the most pricey parts! So why not have a picnic in the park instead! Plus it gave me opportunity to use the city as back drop which I was really happy with.
What’s the most important tip you have for couples planning their wedding?
Please please, do what YOU really WANT to do. Not what you think you “should” do.
