Laid Back Bristol Wedding with Epic Bridal Style
We love it when a couple buck a couple of the obvious wedding traditions but non more so than an alternative-to-white wedding dress. Charlotte’s choice; a sunshine yellow Outline dress and statement shoes, made our heart sing!
Over to the couple to tell us more about their day…
Charlotte & Jack…
How did you meet and get engaged?
We met on Guardian Soulmates (old school online dating, before Tinder!) in Autumn 2012 – he took me to a romantic pub in Croydon for our first date and watched Sky Sports over my shoulder, obviously things improved after that.
We had our little girl in 2017 and got engaged in August 2018 when she was six months old. He took us on a walk in our local cemetery (trust me it’s beautiful) and asked me; ‘what do you want to drink with your tea tonight?’. I thought it was a bit odd but I replied ‘maybe I’ll have a G&T or something?’ to which he said ‘well would you like some champagne, and to marry me?’
Of course I said yes but he was so nervous he hadn’t heard me and asked me again. All whilst our little girl watched on from her pram unaware of the moment that had just taken place. Then we went home and ordered pizza, and of course we drank the champagne.
Was there an overall theme to your day? If so, what was it?
We had a light theme, we wanted to have a very personal day and chose to theme it around our love of travel. My cousin read ‘The Places You’ll Go’ by Dr Seuss and personalised it for us, and our tables were based on our favourite cities with a story about our time in each city and the drink you would expect in that place e.g. gin in London.
How would you describe your day?
A whirlwind. The most fun day of our lives, truly. And none of this is a cliché. I wish we had started two hours earlier and finished two hours later (that being said we had another party the next day too!)
To have everyone that you both love in the same space is probably a once in a lifetime thing and you can’t put a price on that feeling when everyone is having fun together and making new connections, because we fell in love.
How was your day unique to you?
We are generally laid back and non-traditional and the whole weekend celebrated that. We slept in the same bed the night before the wedding with Jack leaving at 9am to go get ready with his brothers (no superstitions worried us). I got ready at the venue and finished the flowers there with people popping in and out to say hello. I didn’t wear white as I hadn’t felt comfortable in any of the dresses I had tried and we let our little girl steal the show. Our food was made to share and we had gone to Calais to choose wine unique to us. The bride did a speech and we all danced to indie music and hiphop until midnight!
Tell us more about your suppliers and why you picked them?
From the moment we walked into The Mansion House we knew this was our venue. It has so much space and lots of small rooms so our little girl could nap and we could set up a playroom for her and the close family children that were invited. Plus there was the possibility of getting married outdoors, and we were able to use their caterers who had incredible reviews.
Simon who manages the venue was amazing from day one and his team on the day were faultless.
Kate Jackson ‘fun’ wedding photographer DID NOT DISAPPOINT!
Honestly, she is one of the most fun people we have ever met, from start, to finish and beyond our wedding journey, Kate has been incredible. She got to know us as a couple so well and you can really tell in the way the photos have come out. She captured our essence in every shot and her never-ending energy provided over a thousand incredible pictures of our most special day.
As well as this she is professional and beyond helpful, giving us advice at every stage in our planning and making everyone feel at ease on the day.
I bought my dress from Outline. It was the exact style I wanted and after trying on a yellow wedding dress at Sarah Seven in New York I knew it would be perfect.
My shoes were from Kat Maconie, they are honestly the most incredible shoes I have ever worn. I wanted to buy something that I would wear again and they were the most expensive item I bought to wear that day! I wore some white Nike basketball sneakers in the evening so I could dance but otherwise they were the perfect shoes for the day.
My jewellery was from Astrid and Miyu. My rings are rose gold and A&M do the most beautiful rose gold jewellery to match. My mum gave me a stunning ring with moonstones too which I wore.
Jack got his suit from Reiss and his shoes from Charles Tyrwitt. The best man and ushers wore the same shade of navy suits and Jack bought them matching pocket squares and ties.
What are your favourite details of the day?
The tables without a doubt. The stories that Jack wrote about our special times in each city and the way he had so meticulously chosen the drinks to match for the favours was brilliant. People seemed really interested in the stories and of course they loved the free booze.
What was your budget?
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding, for either the planning or the lead-up?
If you’re stressing over a tiny detail think; did I care about this as a guest at someone else’s wedding? The answer is likely going to be no. Who remembers the exact flower arrangement or if menus were printed? Guests will be happy if they are fed and there’s a bar, and of course if they get to see the people they love get married.
Thank you so much Charlotte and Jack for sharing your amazing day with us :)
