Hannah and Nick decided to have a fun, colour-filled wedding at one of my favourite wedding venues, the beautiful Dewsall Court in Herefordshire.
I love all the quirky details, their stunning outdoor ceremony overlooking the Black Mountains, the abundance of bright Summer florals, and Hannah’s silver sequinned kimono bridal dress from The Couture Company!
Over the Hannah to tell us more…
Hannah + Nick…
How did you meet?
We met during Nick’s gap year at St Bartholomew’s Hospital where I worked – he was working in the lab before starting medical school there the following year
Was there an overall theme to your day?
We are pretty laid back and can be persuaded to anything – we wanted something quite informal and eclectic which took as much of the focus off us as possible!!
How long were you planning it for?
We only gave ourselves three months
How was your day unique to you?
We had already got married at the registry office two weeks earlier – and we didn’t want a big formal ceremony at the Dewsall event. So we asked my very unusual and crazy uncle to officiate. He came up with a ‘marriage ceremony’ that featured us as Beano characters and ended with us having to don false noses as the ‘ring exchange’.
Where was your wedding / reception venue and why did you pick it?
When we went to see Dewsall Court, the atmosphere of the place kind of shaped what we decided to do for the wedding –it’s so beautiful and we knew we wanted to be outside as much as possible. They offered us a canopy on the lawn which was again quite informal and simple but added just enough ‘occasion’ to the occasion
Working with Dewsall Court was amazing and it really was a very special place with a lovely feeling to it. The additional activities were really good for bringing our families together and getting everyone in the mood!
Who was your wedding photographer and why did you chose them?
Marta May Photography was brilliant to work with and we were so happy with the results.
Your outfits! Tell us more about them!
Im so pleased that I went to The Couture Co for my wedding dress, they exactly fit what I wanted for my dress.
Cake! Who created your wedding cake and what theme did you go for?
I ordered the wedding cake from The Tattooed Bakers as a surprise for my husband who is a huge Alan Partridge fan – it was amazing.
Tell us about your wedding stationery – who designed them for you?
My sister drew the table plan and designed and drew the table cards, they were absolutely beautiful.
Looking back, what was the stand out moments of your day?
That’s hard … just the warmth of our families and friends and seeing them all together was fantastic.
The bubbles provided by Spinsonic were an epic touch – kept the kids entertained so adults could have time undistracted by children!
Two days before the wedding we also had our closest friends and family come and stay and we went on a boat cruise on the Severn and had a picnic, we also did duck herding and foraging on the Dewsall estate, both amazing.
Do you have any advice for couples currently planning their wedding, for either the planning or the lead-up?
That having a watertight plan is essential (luckily Hannah at Dewsall made sure we did this) – that aiming for a ‘relaxed and informal’ occasion still requires an absolutely military plan behind it!
Lastly, remember you are doing this for you and not for your family!
