Spooky season is well and truly underway 👻 It’s definitely my favourite time of year, so when this ‘Beetlejuice’ inspired shoot landed in my inbox, I knew I had to share it with you!
Combining modern edge with a Tim Burton twist, a monochrome wedding palette, and a custom-made red dress (who can forget Winona Ryder’s red bridal gown!,) it’s an awesome nod to this epic cult classic.

What was the idea behind the shoot?
The idea behind the shoot was to have fun and get to create something unique and creative. Beetlejuice is one of my favorite Tim Burton movies and after watching it again, I was inspired by the scenes in the dunes with the sand snake when Barbara and Adam first realize they are dead, and the rest is history!
Where did you get your inspiration from?
We pulled direct inspiration from the Tim Burton film, Beetlejuice. Everything from the signage, decor, wardrobe, drinks, and even location were inspired from different scenes from the cult classic.
How did you find the suppliers who made this concept come to life?
I reached out directly to local wedding creatives in Albuquerque to come together for this super fun wedding shoot and to create a look together that is different from the norm in our popular southwest landscape.
What details/look are your favourite, and why?
My favorite details from this shoot were definitely the custom illustrations and invitation suite provided by Darling Clementine Illustrations. She made my vision come to life. I particularly love her style for this shoot because she has a whimsical quality to her calligraphy and I love that she is open to having fun with watercolors.
But I think each and every creative that was part of this collaboration absolutely killed it! From the beautiful red gown and custom created red veil by Bridal Elegance by Darlene to the strange and unusual decor and tablescape created by Luna y Sol NM, everyone came together to make this vision come to life.
Do you have any styling tips for readers looking to emulate this shoot?
Have fun! We went with a super high and chic ponytail for our bride and a very bold makeup look. Esther’s look (Officiant and owner of Duke City Ceremonies) was directly inspired by Delia Deetz, so I would suggest creating a look that is both a mix of inspiration from the movie and your own personal style.
What is it that makes your shoot unique?
Not everyone chooses to go full on themed wedding which in itself is a unique choice, but the color scheme, wardrobe, and decor all make this wedding look unique and refreshing. We definitely embraced the strange and unusual aspects of the Burton film for every aspect of this shoot.
What’s the most important tip you have for couples planning their wedding?
Stay true to you. Your wedding is about you and your forever love so embrace your quirks! I love photographing weddings where you can feel the couple in every detail of the day.
