Weddings are all about celebrating you as a couple. If you don’t want a big wedding, that’s totally cool! You don’t have to do the whole shebang… stripped back weddings or elopements are the perfect way to celebrate without having to cater to everyone else’s needs.
That’s why I love today’s elopement inspiration… modern wedding style with a 70’s twist, beautiful blooms in muted orange and pink tones, and epic portraits around Bristol’s vibrant city centre.
Over to Charlie Britz Photography to tell us more…
What was the idea behind the shoot?
The concept is influenced by my love of 70s retro vibes, but with loads of modern and bold twists. The bride & grooms styling was reflective of the laidback feeling I wanted to portray, so nothing too formal.
Where did you get your inspiration from?
I was inspired by the city itself, its diversity & vibrancy. Bristol streets have a little life of their own. I wanted to show couples what can be done without the big wedding, what it could look like just having an epic team of suppliers and a few hidden gems.
How did you find the suppliers who made this concept come to life?
I wanted to showcase the best of local businesses who can make your day unique – bright British florals, individual tiny shaggy cakes made for two, make up that’s fun & bold, stationary that is as epic as the couple, and of course the retro Rockets that are on a rooftop overlooking the city!
What wedding details are your favourite, and why?
I love the grooms styling, particularly his neck scarf – I think grooms get forgotten about sometimes so we wanted to do something less obvious. I also love the shag cake & stationary, I think they reflect the 70s vibe but bring their own modern twist to the shoot.
Do you have any styling tips for readers looking to emulate this shoot?
Go for a look & suppliers that bring you JOY! You want to feel awesome on your day, but also you want to feel badass, and elopements are such a great time to play around with being less traditional.
What is it that makes your shoot unique?
It’s really quite a striped-back shoot, no table-scapes or big venues, we tried to keep it realistic to what a couple might actually do.
What’s the most important tip you have for couples planning their wedding?
Be yourselves! It really shines through when people are completely true to what they like/don’t like.
Also, enjoy it! Don’t worry about stuff on the day, just enjoy yourselves & the rest won’t matter ultimately.
